This series consists of an application file for a residential lease (RL) in District G [Granites] goldfields in the Northern Territory. The file cover has date application received, subject (name of mine or person names in application) locality, area of claim, dates for objection, hearing, recommended, approved or refused, gazetted, posted and when forfeited. The file contains the application for (residential inserted) lease with a sketch of the area being applied for and measurements in chains, any objections received, whether the application is approved or not, rental payments, and general correspondence. The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
